You can’t visit Amarillo without indulging in a Texas-sized steak. I stopped by the legendary Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72-ounce steak challenge, where brave (and hungry) souls attempt to eat a 72-ounce steak, along with sides, in under an hour for a free meal. While I didn’t take on the challenge, I did enjoy a hearty steak dinner. The ambiance is everything you’d expect from a Texas steakhouse—cowboy hats, country music, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. If you’re not up for the challenge, they offer a variety of other delicious cuts, along with classic sides like baked potatoes and fried shrimp.

A Walk Through History: Cadillac Ranch

One of Amarillo’s most famous landmarks, Cadillac Ranch, is an absolute must-see. Located just off I-40, this quirky roadside attraction features 10 classic Cadillacs buried nose-down in the ground, creating a unique art installation that’s become a symbol of Route 66. The best part? Visitors are encouraged to bring spray paint and leave their own mark on the cars. It’s a fun and interactive way to connect with this odd yet iconic piece of Americana. Don’t forget to snap a photo—it’s a classic Texas memory!
